Rear Window Ethics

Let me be the first to tell you about a new website. It has a clever name that recalls one of Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest films. The content is interesting and the topics are well thought out. I am talking about Rear Window Ethics. The design of the site is also really intriguing (almost as good as the writing). Oh and did I mention the author and administrator of this wonderful new site? Why, it is none other than my wife Lyndsay Horne. So check out her new blog, at RWE to your blogrolls and comment, comment, comment!

How To Watch Great Online Content…For Free!

Did He say “Free”?

Online media content and access to it is all the rage these days. Nevermind music, because consumers are looking for bigger fish. Consumers want to download or stream and watch their favorite TV shows and even movies. For those on the go this desire has grown exponentially. Apple and others have scrambled for the past two and half years to settle content contracts with movie and television studios resulting in some great partnerships as well as some nasty breakups.

In the wake of NBC’s departure from iTunes came a new kind of service from the combined forces of NBC and News Corp.: Hulu. Launched March 12, 2008, Hulu is an ad-supported free content service which allows users to watch hundreds of television shows and movies on-demand on their PC or Mac. Much in the same way that some networks (e.g. NBC, CBS) are offering free video-on-demand (VOD) on their websites, Hulu streams content to your computer that you can watch as many times as you want and as long as you want.

Middle Georgia Passion Play

Enjoy these photos of my performance as Judas Iscariot in the 2008 Middle Georgia Passion Play by First Baptist Church, Warner Robins.

Thanks to my good friend Ryan Cruce (who played Jesus) for inviting me to be a part of the great cast.  Also I want to send a big thanks to my friend Garth Williams for taking these great photos.

Happy Easter: Jesus Christ Is Alive

For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.  Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

I Corinthians 15:16-22

May God bless you as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord.

Happy Good Friday

“Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.”

Another Play: The Passion and the Glory

It seems that I have been making some serious connections in the local theater. Maybe I should go ahead and get an agent. I wonder if Jerry McGuire takes actors.

In celebration of Christmas 2007 Lyndsay and I performed in the Perry Players theater production of It’s a Wonderful Life. Through that play we made lots of acquaintances and a few good friends. One such good friend is our new pal Ryan Cruce–actor, musician, 80’s film connoisseur and all around nice guy. It was thanks to Ryan that I landed my second acting gig. Listen to “The Classic Tales” for Audio Books and Short Stories

When portable media devices such as the iPod began gaining market share and popularity in the early 2000’s, it is doubtful that many could foresee the revolution in consumer media consumption that was happening. Many undoubtedly felt that the advent of iTunes and the iTunes Music store in 2003 was amazing, but that was just the beginning. After this came podcasts. These user-created free programs exploded in popularity because of the diversity of topics and formats available. Podcasters began also making free video content. Finally companies like audible.com have made it easy for consumers to enjoy audio versions of modern and classic works of fiction and nonfiction. St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all.

Today is the official national holiday of Ireland and is named for the patron saint of the island.  St. Patrick is estimated to have lived around the middle 4th century and was a missionary to Ireland.  Not much is known about him but much legend has sprung up including the belief that he drove snakes from Ireland.

It is a mystery to me why it is so celebrated in other countries besides Ireland (I know that many in the U.S. use it as an excuse to get drunk as they do with Cinco De Mayo, a Mexican holiday).  But besides that, wearing green, pinching, getting pinched, and parades are a common part of St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Me?  I have spent today relaxing at home with my wife.  I took the day off following the Vida Nueva weekend I was working the past two and half days and I have been getting some much needed rest.

My wardrobe for the day? Red t-shirt, blue jeans, and blue tennis shoes.  No green in sight.  Sorry to be such a party pooper.

Do not let me get you down though.  Have fun and don’t be a-tryin’ to get me lucky charms.

Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Saint!

Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil (1 Peter 3: 10-12, quoting Psalm 34:12-16).

In the last couple of weeks I have been pondering the idea of sin. Over the past five years I have gone through different ideas of what the rigteousness of God looks like in the believer. I have believed before that we will never be good enough, but God for the sake of Christ simply endures our pitifulness and wretchedness. In essence, he holds His nose as He draws us close. Then I came to understand that a believer has become the righteous of God in Christ Jesus because the One who was truly righteous became sin for us. So we are not putrid to Him. Christ was the firstborn of many brethren. So having more rightly understood our position in Christ I then turned to our progression in Christ. “When will I reach the point in which the same old sins do not bother me anymore, Lord?” I understood that I was dead to sin but alive to God. “So, Father, why did I think that thought or say that harsh word or use that critical tone of voice or get so jealous about what that person has or knows?” Continue reading ‘Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Saint!’
